📬 How Do I Get My FAUcard?

You will receive your FAUcard after you have completed your enrollment at FAU.

• 🎓 First, you must be officially enrolled at FAU.
• 💻 After enrollment, activate your FAU account in the
  Identity Management System (IdM).
• 🏠 Make sure that the postal address stored in IdM is correct and up to date.
• 📬 Your FAUcard will then be sent free of charge by post to the address stored in IdM.

Important: If you have recently moved into your accommodation in Erlangen or Nuremberg,
check your address in IdM carefully. This is the address to which your FAUcard will be sent.

✨ What Is the FAUcard Used For?

Your FAUcard combines several important functions:

• 🎓 Student ID card
  It identifies you as an enrolled student of FAU.
• 📚 Library card
  You can use your FAUcard to borrow books from the FAU University Library.
• 💳 Electronic wallet
  You can load money onto the card and use it for cashless payments in the Mensen, cafeterias and snack machines
  of the Studierendenwerk and FAU.
• 🍽️ Student prices in Mensen and cafeterias
  Using your FAUcard identifies you as a student and allows you to benefit from the applicable student prices.
• 🖨️ Copying and printing
  The credit stored on your FAUcard can also be used to pay at FAU copy machines.
• 🔐 Access card
  The FAUcard can be activated for access to certain university rooms, computer labs (CIP pools),
  doors and other facilities.

⚠️ Important: The FAUcard Is NOT a Public Transport Ticket

Your FAUcard does not allow you to use buses, trains, trams or the underground.

It is not a Semesterticket and not a Deutschlandticket.

For public transport, eligible FAU students can purchase the
reduced Deutschlandticket for students (Bayerisches Ermäßigungsticket) separately.

Always make sure that you have a valid public transport ticket before travelling.

🎓 Using the FAUcard as Your Student ID

The front of your FAUcard functions as your official student ID.

It includes, among other information:

• 👤 Your name
• 🖼️ Your photograph
• 🔢 Your matriculation number (Matrikelnummer)
• 📅 The current validity period of your student ID

The validity period is printed on the rewritable strip on the front of the card.

✅ Validation of Your FAUcard

When you receive your first FAUcard at the beginning of your studies, you do not need to validate it separately.

However, if you continue studying at FAU for another semester, you must update the card after completing your
re-registration (Rückmeldung) for the new semester.

• 🔄 From your second semester onwards, update your FAUcard after every successful re-registration.
• 🏧 Insert the card into one of the FAU validation machines.
• ⏱️ The machine updates the validity information printed on the card and the process takes only a short time.

Validation machines can be found at several FAU locations in Erlangen and Nuremberg, including:

• 🏛️ Kollegienhaus – Universitätsstraße 15, Erlangen
• 📚 University Library – Schuhstraße 1a, Erlangen
• 🏢 Student Records Office (Studentenkanzlei) – Halbmondstraße 6, Erlangen
• 🔬 Southern Campus – Erwin-Rommel-Straße 60, Erlangen
• 📊 School of Business, Economics and Society (WiSo) – Lange Gasse 20, Nuremberg
• 🏫 Regensburger Straße Campus – Regensburger Straße 160, Nuremberg

If you are staying at FAU for only one semester, you will normally not need to revalidate your card for another semester.

📚 Activate Your FAUcard for the University Library

Your FAUcard also functions as your library card, but the library function must be
activated once before you can borrow books.

💻 How to Activate Library Access

1. Log in to the FAU Identity Management System (IdM).
2. Open “Anfragen/Aufgaben” (Requests/Tasks).
3. Select “FAUcard”.
4. Select “Bibliothekszugang freischalten” and follow the instructions.
5. Accept the University Library’s terms of use.

Your personal UB ID can be found on the back of your FAUcard.

⚠️ Please note: Library access is usually activated from the next working day.
In individual cases, activation may take until the following working day.

💳 Paying with Your FAUcard

The FAUcard contains an electronic wallet that can be used for payments at many university facilities.

• 🍝 Mensen of the Studierendenwerk
• ☕ Cafeterias of the Studierendenwerk
• 🥤 Snack and vending machines
• 🖨️ FAU copy machines

Before making payments, you must load money onto your FAUcard.

Machines for adding credit to your card can be found in Mensen and cafeterias of the Studierendenwerk
as well as at central copying stations.

💡 Tip: Using your FAUcard in the Studierendenwerk facilities ensures that you are charged
the applicable student rate.

🔐 Access to University Buildings and Rooms

The FAUcard can also be used as an electronic access card for certain university facilities,
such as:

• 💻 Computer rooms / CIP pools
• 🚪 Certain university rooms and buildings
• 🚗 Certain parking barriers

Access rights are not automatically activated for every location.

If you require access to a specific room or facility, your institute or the responsible FAU department
can arrange the necessary authorization.

🚨 Lost, Stolen or Damaged FAUcard

If you lose your FAUcard, you should block it immediately in the IdM portal.

A replacement card can also be requested through IdM.

• 💶 A replacement card normally costs €15.
• 👮 If the card was stolen and you can provide an official police report,
  the replacement fee may be waived.
• 📬 A replacement card can take up to 14 days to arrive.

Therefore, please keep your FAUcard safe during your stay.

After your enrollment at FAU:

1. 🎓 Complete your enrollment.
2. 💻 Activate your FAU IdM account.
3. 🏠 Check your postal address in IdM.
4. 📬 Wait for your FAUcard to arrive by post.
5. 📚 Activate the library function in IdM if you want to borrow books.
6. 💳 Load credit onto the FAUcard if you want to use it for payments.
7. 🪪 Keep your FAUcard with you when you need to prove your student status at FAU.
